The Rio Grande Bike and Cross Country Ski Trail is right across the river!

The Rio Grande Trail runs from Aspen to Glenwood and is adjacent to the Cottages. A trip into Basalt for breakfast or bike the town center of Aspen are favorites.

Head out of the driveway, go right, cross the bridge, then go left and hit the trail (six minutes). Head left toward Basalt and the trail forks below the cottages. The right hand trail takes you into Basalt. Stay to the left and you will wind through the Roaring Fork Club and continue to Carbondale.

Ride the Rio Grande Trail into Basalt and you can continue cycling up the Frying Pan River Road all the way to Ruedi Reservoir. Head left at the split and enjoy a leisurely ride to Carbondale.

Go right from the bridge to bike to Aspen. A stop at the Woody Creek Tavern (eight miles) for a burger or a cold beer or a sandwich and stroll through the gallery at the Woody Creek Store is always a highlight. Either direction, from certain points you can bus back to the cottages.

Ride right towards Aspen and you can continue all the way to the top of Independence Pass or Maroon Lake.
